KW
kilowatt, one thousand watts
KWh
kilowatt hour, the standard unit of energy used in the electric power industry, one kilowatt hour is the amount of energy that would be generated by the one kilowatt generator for one hour
MW
megawatt, one thousand kilowatts or one million watts
MWh
megawatt hour, one thousand KWh
GW
gigawatt, one thousand megawatts or one million kilowatts
GWh
gigawatt hour, one thousand MWh or one million KWh
TW
terawatt, one million megawatts or one billion kilowatts
TWh
terawatt hour, one million MWh or one billion KWh
Standard Coal
coal with energy content of 7000 Kcal/kg
Coal Sludge
by-product of coal washing process in coal mining, which contains coal powder, mud and rock
Gangue
by-product of coal washing and screening process in coal mining, whose energy content is normally lower than 3000 Kcal/kg
Auxiliary Power
electricity consumed by a power plant in power generation process
Gross Generation
total amount of electricity produced by a power plant in a specific period, including auxiliary power
Planned Output
annually determined gross generation target for a power plant, which is the basis for determining power sales
Excess Output
amount by which total output of a power plant in a particular year exceeds its planned output for such year
Power Sale
actual amount of electricity sold by a power plant in a specific period, which equals gross generation less auxiliary power and losses incurred during transmission from power plant to power grid
Steam Sale
actual amount of steam sold by a cogeneration plant in a specific period, which equals total steam output less losses incurred during transmission from cogeneration plant to steam customers
Installed Capacity
manufacturers’ rated power output of a generating unit, usually denominated in MW
Steam Extraction Capacity
manufacturers’ rated steam output of a steam turbine, usually denominated in ton/h
Utilization Hours
amount of electricity produced in a specific period divided by average installed capacity in such period
Thermal Efficiency
ratio of heat and power generated by a power plant to overall heat value from the fuel consumed
Heat-to-Power Ratio
ratio of heat generation to power generation of a cogeneration plant
